11/13 OBX Marathon 2:38:40 1st This was the 3rd time I've run the full marathon at OBX the week after running City of Oaks. Although I was a little banged up and sick, by race time the adrenaline took over and I put everything else out of mind. I took the lead right before the mile mark and never looked back in route to my first NC USATF State Championship title. I had a blast during the race and will remember this win for a long time.
11/6 City of Oaks Marathon 2:33:50 2nd This was my 4th time running City of Oaks and is my favorite marathon as it runs through Umstead State Park, my favorite place to train. Today the goal was to finish as high as possible while still saving my legs for next week's state championship marathon in OBX. I had a lot of fun and felt like I put in just the right amount of effort to accomplish my goal.
10/9 Chicago Marathon 2:33:51 108th Today was my final shot at the Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 2:19. We had a large group of men going after the standard, and I was able to tuck in the back of the pack and stay relaxed. At mile 10, my quads started tightening up and I lost more than 30 seconds over the next 3 miles. I knew my day was over shortly after that and I did what I could to finish the race without causing too much damage to my legs.
10/1 Great American XC 5k 15:52 1st This was my first cross country race in over 10 years. With Chicago only one week away, this was more of a tempo effort.
9/17 Ovarian Cancer 5k 16:12 1st Yet another 5k run in heavy rain. Even with the bad weather, I was dissapointed with my effort today.
9/4 VA Beach Rock 'N Roll
Half Marathon
1:13:40 33rd This was to be my tune-up before Chicago. Having some on and off hamstring issues the previous few weeks, a knot formed in the muscle before I hit the 5k mark in the race forcing me to jog/limp the final 10 miles.
8/27 Raleigh 8000 26:29 1st This race occured the morning that Hurricane Irene hit Raleigh. Not much to say other than it was wet and windy!
8/6 Run for the Red 10k 35:19 2nd The extreme heat and humidity coupled with a super-hilly course quickly squashed any illusions I had of running fast. Because there was prize money involved, I simply did the bare minimum to secure 2nd place overall.
6/18 Running of the Bulls 8k 25:20 3rd This race was the NC USATF 8k State Championships. I went into the race with several weeks of good training under my belt and was looking forward to the challenging course. I battled it out with several of the top runners in the state and was pleased with my 3rd place showing.
6/11 Komen Race for the Cure 5k 15:56 1st This was the 5th time I've participated in the Race for the Cure. I run in celebration of Patty, a two-time breast cancer survivor. Even though my legs weren't there today, it's always fun to win.
4/9 Tarheel 10 Miler 54:17 3rd This race also served as the NC USATF 10 Mile State Championships. I've been back to a semi-normal training routine for about two weeks, so I wanted to test my fitness level on a very challenging course as well as have a little fun battling it out for an overall top-3 spot. I had a blast during the race which came down to a final kick for 3rd place. Overall I was pleased with both my effort and final result.
3/20 Wrightsville Beach Marathon 2:42:15 1st After more than 4 weeks off from running while my Achilles healed up from my last marathon, I was pleasantly surprised that my body held up enough to finish the race. This race (and the weekend with my family) was all about having fun.
2/13 26.2 with Donna 3:14:31 44th I came into this race with a foot injury hoping to qualify for the Olympic Trials. After leading the race for almost 10 miles, my injuries got the best of me and I was brought to a slow jog which eventually turned into a walk. Unfortunately, I also finished with a slight tear in my Achilles.

11/7 City of Oaks Marathon 2:40:21 6th I replaced my long run of the week and used this race as a workout. It also gave me a chance to practice marathon nutrition. The toughest part was holding back and not getting caught up in racing as I love this course.
